COBA – CONTEMPORARY MEXICAN TASTE EXPERIENCE

Coba is the venture of a mother and son team – Leija and Jonatan Graf. As an entrepeneur devoted to luxury travel Leija started travelling with Jonatan soon after birth. And so over the years he experienced not just the world’s best hotels and spas, but also the cultures and cuisines of exotic destinations around the world.

Mexican became Jonatan’s clear favourite early on, and in his preschool days he was already crazy about Quesadillas, Tacos och Nachos. It became something of a sport for him to seek the perfect Tacos – a soft tortilla baked with 100% Maize meal, enlivened with fillings that exploded with taste.

Over the years he sought out more sophisticated Mexican fare, as found in Mexico but also developed to an art in Los Angeles. Presented with flair, this is Mexican with aspirations, and loving care in choice of ingredients.

The perfect seared tuna, home made tortillas, newly stirred guacamole…

Back in Sweden the contrast was only too obvious. Hard baked mass-produced Tacos shells filled with fried mince, basic (soapy) cheese and supermarket salsa. Jonatan decided to change all that.

In May 2013 he opened restaurant Coba. At last Stockholm people can enjoy Tacos and other Mexican served with the quality ingredients, creativity and caring this cuisine deserves..

The name Coba comes from an ancient Mayan city and means water stirred by wind. In the years 600 to 900 Coba was probably the biggest city in the area with around 60 000 inhabitants. The 42 meter high pyramid Nohoch Mul is the highest in the Yucatan peninsula, and its 120 steps can be climbed to this day.

Restaurant Coba cherishes its heritage, and food is prepared by the best Mexican cooks. Chefs who have grown up with authentic Mexican food and during their careers have been open to modern ideas and creativity. Welcome to a contemporary taste experience at Coba…
